A sunny day in december deserves a good walk around the old town (vieille ville) of Nice.
I find the old town as the best part of Nice, and the ideal place to simply “get lost” by wandering around all the narrow lanes.
The atmosphere is so special having buildings back from the 1700’s all around, hidden shops, markets and small restaurants in every corner. It’s the ideal place to discover new places and buy original items that you probably can’t find anywhere else.
After a short walk, I found my new favourite little gem “Girofle et Cannelle” (english translation: Clove & Cinnamon). An impressive spice shop selling any type of spice you can imagine, bottles of salt in every flavour and colour, bottles of rum, homemade tea blends, balsamic vinegars and much much more.
I was on a mission to find my rose petals, a necessary ingredient to mix with 3 other spices I have in order to achieve a middle eastern spice that will make your rice irresistible.
Of course I found it, and after having a conversation with the kind shop owner, he also gave me a free bag of their special homemade “Soleil à Nice” tea mix with pineapple, mango, oranges, tangerines and strawberries.
The shop owner also explained that the tea mix can be used for cakes (!!!!), you can imagine my face expression when I heard that.
I couldn’t resist not opening the tea when I got home, so I made a giant cup of tea for myself and ended up finishing the entire bag as it was so good.
Make sure you watch out for my next article, you might just discover my secret spice mix with rose petals!
